We are in October and we all know to what this month reminds us. Halloween.

According to Oxford University, the origins of Halloween date back more than 3,000 years ago, when the ancient Celtic civilisation of Europe celebrated their new year, called Samhain, as we now think of it as the 1st of November. On the eve of this Gaelic harvest festival —what we know as Halloween— they believed that spirits walked the earth while travelling to the afterlife, alongside other creatures, such as fairies and demons. This ritual served as a farewell to Lugh, the Sun god, and a welcome to fall’s short, cold nights.

These festivities inspire us with a creative culinary suggestion that will frighten both children and adults, but it is the healthiest and most delicious way to celebrate Halloween, with a deadly breakfast!

This recipe has been based on a breakfast, but what if we ate it as a snak instead of as a breakfast? Why not?

Let’s prepare this spooky, scary and healthy recipe!!!

Ingredients:

  • 30 El Ciruelo green grapes (seeded or seedless)
  • 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
  • A bit of coconut nectar or honey
  • ½ cup yoghurt
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 handful of fresh spinach
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed oil
  • Lemon juice from 1 lemon

Elaboration:

  • Prepare the cups (or bowls) to serve, by soaking a knife in coconut nectar or honey and running it along the edge of the cups. Then, tip the glasses onto the ground seed plate to create an edging effect.
  • Set aside.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, excluding the El ciruelo grapes, to the food processor and blend until you get a smooth texture.
  • Add the El Ciruelo grapes, but without blending.
  • Pour into glasses and serve.
  • Enjoy this rare and healthy dish.
